Renowned and multiple award-winning South African music artist, Thokozani Langa popularly known as Somnandi, is set to release a brand-new music project titled I-VAR. The highly anticipated project will officially drop on the 23rd of May, 2025.
According to the artist, I-VAR aims to shine a light on injustices that have long gone unnoticed. Drawing from the symbolism of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in football, Langa emphasizes that “no atrocity will go unpunished” now that justice has a watchful eye.
In his words:
“Yonke into inesikhathi sayo. Akukho okungafiki. Ngithi dumelang, nayi front cover yomsebenzi ozophuma, isihloko sithi I-VAR. Kade ngishaya ama-goal bewaphika, iyafuneka i-VAR. Khona abantu abasemajele ngenxa yezinto abangazenzanga — isibonelo. Kwezinye izimo abanye abantu banezincwadi ezingekho emthethweni. I-VAR iyadingeka. Umsebenzi uzophuma maduze. Kea leboha.”
The project comprises a total of 14 tracks and features several acclaimed artists, including Mashelela, Mfezemnyama, Siya Ntuli, Njabulo Langa, Masinga, and Menzi.
All songs were composed by Thokozani Langa and Phathaphata Ngcobo, except for Track 2, which was co-written by T. Langa, P. Ngcobo, and Skhumba STS. The entire project was exclusively produced by Phathaphata Ngcobo.
